In 2021,UNHCR undertook a strategic review of its operations in Italy by forming a working group with six Italian cities-Bari, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Rome, and Turin. The participating municipalities signed the Charter for Integration, which aims to develop the services already available in the territories for the purpose of facilitating the integration of persons seeking and receiving international protection.
Among the priority actions of the Charter for Integration is the development of “Common Spaces”: multi-purpose centers where key services for the integration of persons with international protection can be concentrated, pursuing the “One-Stop-Shop” approach , based on the provision of services by public and private entities under one roof.
Foreigners Service of the City of Turin
Mosaico Association becomes Implementing partner of UNHCR in May 2022 and initiates the “Spazio Comune” project at the Foreigners Service of the City of Turin where it experiments with the effectiveness of the One-Stop-Shop approach: its task is, among other things, to make available the tools of social mediation by working on the creation and repair of social ties to prevent conflicts. In addition, within Common Space, Mosaico works on the development of inter-institutional collaboration, facilitates the referral of cases, and reports cases to the Prefecture and Police Headquarters (particularly for obtaining essential documents).
