Competition to support artistic talent of refugees

Mosaico – Azioni per i Rifugiati, with the support of Lavazza, announces this call for proposals for the selection and enhancement of the artistic talent of artistə refugees and/or those with migrant backgrounds, promoting creativity as a tool for expression, inclusion and active citizenship.

The call is part of the project “To My Dreams I Will Not Give Up,” an integral part of the International Week of Rights, Environment and Cultures, organized by Mosaico on the occasion of World Refugee Day (June 20). In this context, art becomes a vehicle for dreams, memory, identity and encounter, contributing to a new, more just and participatory narrative of migration.

1. DESTINATARƏ
The contest is open to artistə who meet the following requirements:
● Be persons with a migrant background, refugeeə, asylum seeker, holder or former holder of international protection or other form of protection;
● Be 18 years of age or older on the date of the call deadline;
● Have artistic skills in the fields of painting or poetry.

2. CATEGORIES AND PRIZES
The competition will select four winners, divided into two sections:
● 2 for the Painting section
● 2 for the Poetry section
The winners will receive:
● A cash prize for the purchase of materials, educational paths or art projects;
● Participation in an artistic and cultural journey from June 17 to 26, 2025, with travel, food and lodging expenses fully covered:
○ From June 17 to 19: artistic residency at the Orsolina28 Art Foundation, in Moncalvo (AT) led by artist and performer Valerie Tameu. The art residency will be a pivotal moment of the journey and will take place in an immersive, collective and listening-inspired context. During the days at Orsolina28, the selected artistə will work on a co-creation process that will result in a collective work, inspired by the dreams and stories collected through the participatory campaign launched by Mosaico “Share Your Dream.”
○ June 19-26: stay in Turin, including participation in public events, meetings, and networking moments with citizens, active patrecipation in the World Refugee Day at the Red Room of the City of Turin organized by Mosaico, as part of the International Week of Rights, Environment and Cultures program.
○ On June 25, 2025, a public event will be held at Lavazza’s spaces in Turin, during which the winning works, the collective work resulting from the artistic residency, and a selection of works by artist René Bokoul will be exhibited. Institutions and representatives of local realities will be present, with moments of dialogue with the artistsə. The event will culminate with the official awards ceremony.

3. HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Applications should be sent no later than May 25, 2025 to mosaico@mosaicorefugees.org, with the subject line: Application “To My Dreams I Will Not Give Up.”
Each application should include:
● Completed participation form ( ANNEX A);
● Motivational letter (max 2000 characters, in Italian or English, PDF format);
● Copy of a valid ID and/or residence permit;
● Work to be submitted:
○ Painting section: image of the work and/or brief technical description;
○ Poetry section: unpublished text (in PDF format).
Candidatesə should be available for a cognitive interview (online or in-person) between May 20 and 28, 2025, and present in Turin from June 17 to 26, 2025.

4. EVALUATION
The works will be selected by a jury composed of artistə, professionals from the cultural sector and representatives of Lavazza, whose commitment to the promotion of talent and artistic inclusion is an essential element of the project.
The evaluation process will be transparent and based on criteria of originality, expressive force and relevance of the artistic message.
