Turin mediAction

With this project, Mosaico has embraced the challenge of inclusion through widespread activities of accompaniment, engagement, knowledge and relationship.
The “Turin Mediation” project was created with the aim of carrying out multilevel social mediation activities, enabling people who are in a situation of need or vulnerability to obtain support and guidance in learning about the information and services offered by the territory itself.

The project activities developed

1. OUTREACH, WITH STREET MEDIATION

Theteam of street social mediators carried out day and night shifts in critical areas of the city, including the Porta Palazzo-Aurora station, Porta Nuova-San Salvario, and the Porta Susa bus station. Thanks to the project, it was possible to strengthen outreach work on the street, which is essential to reach those who, despite being in a condition of social and housing hardship, would not independently turn to the services offered by this project. The activity was therefore anoutsourcing and support to situations of fragility, with a view to conflict prevention.

2. CREATION OF WIDESPREAD MEDIATION SPACES.

Thanks to the project, widespread mediation spaces have been created within two Neighborhood Houses Cecchi Point and San Salvario, in collaboration with Educadora Onlus and San Salvario Local Development Agency, respectively. The social counters are in fact active listening and support centers for the community, promoting the building and strengthening of social ties. A social mediator from Mosaico helped implement the activities, sharing the methodology of social mediation with the Neighborhood Houses.

3. DEVISING PATHWAYS TO AUTONOMY

Individualized pathways have fostered the strengthening of active inclusion in long-term pathways to autonomy. For example, in accessing administrative offices, a fundamental tool for preventing social marginality, to enable the proper fulfillment of citizenship duties. Among the recipients, special attention was paid to homeless people in a condition of social marginality, single-parent migrant households and refugees.

4. CREATION OF LISTENING SPACES

By making social mediation tools available to institutional service staff, the relational dimension of dealing with foreign users was fostered. With the creation of participatory sharing, it was possible to collectively reflect on issues such as understanding, communication and assistance to foreign users, overall enhancing the effectiveness and quality of services provided.
